Al-Sheikh met Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar

Today, I met with my brother and friend, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman.

We discussed the latest developments, specifically after POTS Biden’s tour of the region and the summit of Jeddah.

I reaffirmed our high appreciation for His Highness the prince’s speech at the summit, as well as the united Arab position on the Palestine issue.

We appreciate the firm and historical Arab position on the issue of Palestine and its lively presence at the Jeddah Summit, and the affirmation by all the Arab kings and leaders present on the necessity of applying international legitimacy in ending the Israeli occupation and in establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.




AlSheikh: We will continue procedures at ICC regarding the killing of Abu Akleh

The Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, stressed today in reaction to a statement issued by US State Department spokesman Ned Price on the killing of al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh that “We will not allow attempts to conceal the truth or to have shy references in pointing the finger of accusation to Israel.”

“The occupation government bears responsibility for the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh, and we will continue our procedures at the international courts,” he said in a tweet.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price issued a statement today stating that the “U.S. Security Coordinator (USSC), could not reach a definitive conclusion regarding the origin of the bullet that killed Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Ballistic experts determined the bullet was badly damaged, which prevented a clear conclusion.”

The statement added that “the USSC concluded that gunfire from IDF positions was likely responsible for the death of Shireen Abu Akleh.  The USSC found no reason to believe that this was intentional.”

PLO official Al-Sheikh receives British Minister Milling in Ramallah

PLO Secretary-General Hussein Al-Sheikh Thursday received British Minister of State for Asia and the Middle East Amanda Milling at his office in Ramallah.

Al-Sheikh discussed with Milling along with the accompanying delegation the latest developments regarding the Palestinian question at the regional and international levels, with focus on Israeli encroachments upon holy sites in Jerusalem, land grab, colonial settlement construction in the West Bank and forced expulsions, including the imminent forced expulsion of some 1,300 Palestinians living in twelve villages or hamlets making up the Masafer Yatta area in the southern Hebron hills.

He addressed the financial crisis gripping the Palestinian Authority following the halting of international aid and withholding by Israel of a large portion of the tax revenues it collects on behalf of the former.

The PLO official tweeted that he “stressed the need to stop all these systematic unilateral measures, which would impede the two-state solution, and the need for a political horizon to end the occupation & lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, East Jerusalem and Gaza.”

He expressed his gratitude to Britain for “its support for the Palestinians, stressing the need for continued cooperation and coordination between the two countries in areas of common interest.”

Minister Milling emphasized her country’s  position in support of the two-state solution based on 1967 borders.




PLO’s Secretary-General discusses latest political developments with Greek Consul General in Jerusalem

The Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the PLO, Hussain al-Shaikh discussed today the latest political developments on the Palestinian issue at all levels, locally and globally, with the Greek Consul General in Jerusalem, Evangelos Vlioras.

They discussed the continuous attacks by Israeli settlers and their terrorism on Islamic and Christian holy sites, especially in Jerusalem, which would impede the two-state solution.

They further discussed the need for a political horizon that will put an end to the occupation and would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The PLO official expressed his high appreciation for the bilateral and historical relations between the State of Palestine and Greece.

For his part, Vlioras affirmed the strong historical friendship between Greece and Palestine, stressing his country’s position in support of the two-state solution in accordance with United Nations resolutions and international legitimacy.




Al-Sheikh received a high-level delegation from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs

This evening, I received in my office a high-level delegation from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by the Director of the Department of the United Nations, International Organizations, Human Rights and Francophonie in the, Mr. Fabien Penone.

I gave the guests a brief on the latest political developments regarding the Palestinian cause at all regional and global levels, the Israeli attacks and the terror of settlers, especially in the city of Jerusalem, and what the world witnessed of the brutal attack on the funeral of Shireen Abu Aqleh inside the French hospital in Jerusalem, and the arrest by Israel of the Jerusalem lawyer who holds the french citizenship Salah Hammouri and refused to release him.

I highlighted the need to stop all unilateral measures that would impede the two state solution, as well as the need for a political horizon to end the occupation.

We discussed the financial crisis in Palestine, especially the global economic crisis, in light of the cessation of financial support to the PA and the occupation’s withholding of tax funds due.

And expressed our high appreciation of the bilateral relations between Palestine and France, the joint work, the permanent communication, and the development of relations between the two countries in several fields.

In his turn, Mr. Penone affirmed his country’s support in achieving peace in accordance to the two state solution as the only solution and the only guarantee to security and peace in the region.




PLO official meets with US delegation in Ramallah

The Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the PLO met today at his office in Ramallah with a US delegation, headed by Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf.

“A third meeting was held with the US delegation headed by the Assistant Secretary of State Leaf to discuss the latest developments and prepare for President Biden’s visit to Palestine,” he said in a tweet.

This evening, I received in my office, the US Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf and her deputy Hady Amr, in the presence of the Director of General Intelligence, Majid Faraj, the President’s Advisor Dr. Majdi AlKhaldi, and The Director of the SG office Mrs. Ayah AlMuhisin.

During the meeting, which comes as part of many with the American delegation and in preparation for President Biden’s visit, we discussed the latest political and field developments in the Palestinian territories as a result of the Israeli escalation and the settlers’ terror and their daily attacks, especially in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the attacks on citizens and journalists, as happened with the martyr Shireen Abu Akleh, I stressed the necessity of reopening the USA consulate in East Jerusalem and removing the PLO from the lists of terrorism in accordance with the unfair congressional laws against the Palestinian people. And talked about the economic aspects and the need to resume assistance to the PA, as well as unilateral measures that would undermine the 2SS and peace opportunities, especially in light of the global financial crisis, especially the financial crisis in the PA due to the occupation’s withholding of our money from taxes owed to us.

I added that we need security and stability and an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to adhere to the agreements signed between the PLO and Israel, and to implement international legitimacy resolutions that haven’t been implemented.




Al Sheikh received the Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs

This Sunday, I received in my office in Ramallah, the Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maya Tissafi, in the presence of the Swiss representative to Palestine Mr. Victor Vavricka.

We discussed with Ms. Tissafi the latest political developments on the Palestinian issue locally, regionally and internationally, we have emphasized the need to stop the Israeli escalation and settler attacks that impede the two-state solution in the absence of a political horizon.

We discussed the financial crisis in Palestine in especially because of the cessation of financial support to the PA and the occupation’s withholding of tax funds due.

We affirmed our appreciation for the bilateral relations between Palestine and Switzerland, thanking them for their permanent support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people through international institutions.
